Major fire at Polish wholesale market Bronisze

Early this morning, at 2:00 am, a fire broke out in hall OW 2 at the Polish wholesale market Bronisze. According to René Noordam of the Ramawa company in Poland, the cause of the fire is still unclear. No official statements have been made. There are nine halls in Bronisze altogether, and hall OW 2 is the fruit and vegetable hall. René is a broker, and his company is based in the south of Poland, but he has a lot of customers at Bronisze. “Everyone was very shocked.”

25 to 35 companies hit
“200 firemen were busy extinguishing the blaze,” René says. “When the fire broke out, people were even sleeping there, but fortunately everyone got out unharmed. Over half of the hall, +/- 10,000 m2, was lost. 25 to 35 companies are reported to be hit.”

“A nice gesture: right now, companies that were hit are being offered cooling space to carry on trading. Many companies that were hit, had trucks with goods en route, which have to be unloaded, of course. Nothing much can be said of the extent of the damage yet, the only thing I heard is that the hall will have to be torn down completely to rebuild.”

René has had his own company, Ramawa, for a year now, having started to work for himself a year ago. He’s been in Poland for nearly ten years, working together with suppliers from various European countries. He represents those fruit and veg companies in Poland.
